Homemade Paleo Ketchup

My husband and I have been using this recipe for about a year now and we love it!  It has a nice, thick consistency and has a bit of a BBQ sauce flavour to it as well.  Not only is it a much healthier alternative to store bought ketchup, it is quick and simple to make.  Oh, and did I mention it is paleo friendly?  My sister-in-law uses this recipe as well except she cuts the amount of molasses in half to ½ tbsp.  This brings out more of the taste of the tomatoes and less of a BBQ sauce flavour.

Homemade Paleo Ketchup

Ingredients:

-1 can tomato paste (12 oz or 369 mL)

-1 cup water

-2 TBSP white vinegar

-1/2 TSP salt

-1/2 TSP curry powder

-1 garlic clove, minced

-1 TBSP molasses (ideally organic blackstrap molasses)

-2 TBSP honey

-1/4 TSP cinnamon

 

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and simmer while stirring frequently until all ingredients are well blended.
  3. Allow the ketchup to cool for 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer the ketchup to a glass jar and completely cool before serving.  Keep refrigerated.
