“Why Shea Butter?” you may ask. Well, Maiga provides a handy link on their about page to a video that explains where shea butter comes from. It also delves into the science behind its benefits for our skin. Here is the link:
This statement was pulled directly from the Maiga website: “MAIGA facial scrub is an extremely unique but yet gentle and very effective facial scrub made with apricot seeds and other powerful millennia-old cleansing, anti-bacterial and anti-aging ingredients.”

Pricing & Where to Purchase
The Maiga Facial Scrub sells online at http://www.maiga.com for $10.00 for 2 oz and $20.00 for 8 oz. I purchased my 8 0z jar at my local health food store for $17.59 plus HST.
Pros of This Product (In my opinion)
-it is made with organic shea butter
-all of the ingredients listed on the jar label are natural…and easily pronounced
-it has been certified by ECOCERT which means that it uses ingredients derived from renewable resources and manufactured by environmentally friendly processes. They check for GMOs, parabens, synthetic perfumes and dyes and a list of other unwanted ingredients. They also check the biodegradable or recyclable nature of the packaging. There is a standard to be certified with ECOCERT that states that a minimum of 95% of the total ingredients must come from natural origin.
-it is Fairtrade certified.
-it has a very fine texture compared to other exfoliants found at the drug store.
-it does not have that strong, synthetic perfume smell found in other drug store exfoliants. In fact, it smells like soap to me.
Cons of This Product (In my opinion)
-it can sting a little bit if you have any open cuts or acne but it is tolerable
-it can leave skin dry but to be fair, most skin care products that target acne have a tendency to dry skin.
-it is more expensive than your average drug store variety exfoliant.
My overall opinion
I have been using the Maiga Facial Scrub 1-2 times per week before bed for the last 3
months. Sometimes I use it with my little facial steamer to open pores for a deeper clean. I always follow up with a serum and moisturizer otherwise my skin does feel dry and a bit raw. Maybe I am scrubbing too hard or too long! The odd time I will use it in the shower in the morning if my skin is feeling rough or flaky.
Overall, my face feels much more clean after using this product compared to other exfoliants because of the fine, ground apricot seeds and plantain powder in the mix. It leaves my skin very soft and smooth and even a little “glowy”. The price is a little high but the jar lasts a long time. Plus, I would rather pay a little bit more for a product with natural and organic ingredients than pay less for one that is pumped full of chemicals. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a fine textured, natural facial scrub product!
